YFC team completes Lands End to John O’Groats bike ride

At 3.30pm on Sunday 31 May Gavin Calver, Youth for Christ’s new National Director, Phil Knox, Kris Calver and Lea Milligan reached the end of their two week sponsored bike ride covering over 950 miles, safely and with joyful song.

So far over £25,000 has been raised to help fund YFC’s projects with young people across the UK.

Setting off from Land’s End on Sunday 17 May, the guys have experienced many ups and downs as they’ve cycled the length of the UK. Heavy rain meant the first three days were a gruelling introduction to the ride and aches, pains and falls also made things difficult throughout.

They all faced physical challenges with tweaks, pulls and aching muscles but shared great moments and encounters with God along the way.

Each member of the group finished able to share wonderful experiences of when God met with them as they travelled and as they looked upon the awesome majesty of His creation.

Phil Knox, a YFC staff member, said: “Reaching the top of one of the many hills this whole panoramic view opened up and I thought of Psalm 14 where it says 'the fool says in his heart, there is no God'.

Similarly Calver said: "Looking at creation I’ve been absolutely blown away by the majesty. Being awestruck by nature is not really my style but when you’re in the middle of creation - it’s hard not to get a sense of His greatness and power.”

Finally on Sunday at John O’Groats, Calver knelt to pray before the team paused to phone their loved ones.

"It's amazing to have made it and we really hope that the money and interest raised through this venture will have a lasting impact on the young people of Britain," he said.
