'Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana' PC release date delay news: Low frame rates and memory leaks to blame

For the second time, the release date for the PC version of "Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana" has to be moved. Fans who have been waiting for the game since its initial supposed release date of September 2017 will be disappointed once more following the announcement of Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) America.

In a statement by NIS America Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Mitsuharu Hiraoka, he apologized for the delay in the release of "Ys VIII," pointing at low frame rates and memory leaks as the reasons for the hold up.Rock, Paper, Shotgun simplified the technicalities in the statement, explaining that the PC launch of the title is delayed because the game was unable to meet the quality of the performance expected and that they will be giving the game to another developer to fix the problems.

The game is delayed indefinitely â€” the amount of time needed to fix the performance of the game has yet to be identified. Fixing the low frame rates will probably take a while considering the fact that the game is not optimized for PCs. According to Game Debate, the initial plan for the game was for the PC version to run like the PlayStation 4 one. Suffice to say, NIS America has failed to consider the technological differences between PCs and PlayStation 4.

The memory leaks, on the other hand, according to Hiraoka, would take less time to be fixed and have probably been resolved at the time of this article's publication.

Hiraoka further admitted in his statement that NIS America has "underestimated the severity of the issues that have surfaced (and how long it would take to resolve them)."

It must be emphasized, however, that the delay in the release of the PC version of "Ys VIII: Lacrimosa" does not, according to Hiraoka's statement, "affect the relocalization update patch planned for Jan. 30th for the PlayStation®4 and PlayStation Vita versions of the game."
