One of the most horrifying games of the early 2000's, "Yume Nikki," is getting a reboot. With the obviously more advanced technology that game developers have today compared to 2004 when the game was first released, this may not be that surprising. After all, the game has definitely been one fan favorite since its initial release.

The first news about anything related to a sort of sequel or just any game regarding "Yume Nikki" popped up last week alongside a teaser trailer for it. Many reports thought that it would be an entirely new game, a sequel, to the original 2004 game. There was also a countdown timer for it on its website as well.

Now that the timer has struck 0, an official announcement has been made. The "Yume Nikki: Dream Diary" is actually a reboot of the original game. Although it is not exactly an entirely new game, its publishers, Kadokawa Corp. and Active Gaming Media Inc., mention in the game's Steam page that it will introduce new things.

According to the page, the game "combines influences from the original game and other recent indie juggernauts." Other details from the page also show that the game will still have no audio, which is not exactly a bad thing since the original game was successful without it as well. The "full audio" and "subtitles" boxes are unchecked hence the assumption that it will be without dialogue.

For those who worry about authenticity from the original game, the game creator himself, Kikiyama, has been a big part of the development for this reboot. Players who wish to play the original game can also do on Steam as it was released a few weeks ago.

"Yume Nikki: Dream Diary" is set to release on Feb. 23, 2018 for the PC via Steam. It will cost $19.99.
