Months after leaving One Direction, Zayn Malik is gearing up to take the world by storm as a solo artist as the 23-year-old took to Twitter earlier this week to announce the release date of his first single called "Pillowtalk."

On Sunday, Jan. 24, the singer took to the micro blogging site and posted a shirtless photo of himself which shows that his single will debut on Friday, Jan. 29.

Speaking with British Sunday Times (via E! Online), the singer revealed that he is going to sing about a more mature subject matter, which is a far cry from the songs that he used to sing when he was a part of the world-famous British boy band.

"Everybody has sex, and it's something people wanna hear about," he said to the publication. "It's part of everybody's life, a very big part of life! And I don't wanna sweep it under the carpet."

Malik left One Direction in March 2015. In June, he announced that he has signed with RCA as a solo artist and since then, his fans have been eagerly anticipating his first track.

In a Billboard article, it was revealed that Malik's new music was recorded in some of the most unconventional places, with producer James "Malay" Ho telling the magazine that they went camping for a week in the Angeles Forest, even setting up a generator and a tent "so we could track in the woods."

Malik told the magazine while he genuinely liked being in the band with Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, he admitted that One Direction's music was not the kind of music "that was never cool where I was from." Now that he's writing his own songs and recording the kind of music that is more to his taste, the singer finds that he is enjoying what he's doing and this makes him more productive.

"I'll come down here and record maybe seven songs a night," Malik told Billboard. "That's because I'm enjoying what I'm doing. I'm not censoring myself anymore, so I'm not tired."
