Say goodbye to another TV show. Running for three seasons on pure fauna-driven craziness, CBS has pulled the plug on the science-fiction TV show "Zoo."

According to TVLine, "Zoo" has been canceled by CBS. The ratings for the show were okay during its earlier runs but it slowly went down as the series progressed, culminating with the season 3 finale only pulling in 2.8 million viewers.

The series, which was based on the book written by James Patterson in 2012, told the story of a group of people going around the world trying to solve the mystery of animals suddenly turning violent and attacking human beings.

The TV adaptation of "Zoo" was backed up with a very high budget and was able to deliver on the technical aspects. Unfortunately, critics continually noted that the show's writing just wasn't up to par. Even if that was the case, the show still earned fans who enjoyed it purely on a camp level.

The science-fiction show shares the same fate as another CBS show, "Under the Dome." The adaptation of the Stephen King novel was hyped and backed with a big budget to draw in the audience. Unfortunately, maintaining a good storyline over time became a burden for both the "Zoo" and "Under the Dome."

Eventually, both shows stretched out their premises that they started to lose their essence and viewership. For whatever its worth, both shows have taught CBS that three seasons is all they are going to get from a TV project that has a big-budget, a "what if?" concept and a very specific target audience.

But despite "Zoo" getting canceled, CBS has not given up on making a science-fiction show. The network has announced that Alex Kurtzman's thriller "Salvation" will be making a comeback. It can be remembered that "Salvation" did not win the ratings game when it came out this summer, but the show was made available to stream on Amazon, making its return more affordable for CBS.
