While an abundant number of smartphone manufacturers are beefing up the security of their flagship handsets by incorporating fingerprint scanners, Chinese phone maker ZTE has taken one step further by assimilating a Retina scanner in its Grand S3 smartphone. According to PhoneArena, the company is calling this feature as the Eyeprint ID, and similar to regular Retina scanners, this one saves a pattern of the owner's iris and will use it in order to unlock the device.

The website states that although the feature is yet to be tested out, the company's representatives state that neither an image of the owner's eyes nor a video clip is sufficient enough to unlock the advanced security feature. While the perk of owning the ZTE Grand S3 will be its unique Retina scanner, the smartphone possesses a previous generation chipset, the Snapdragon 801, which is running a quad-core Krait 400 processor that is clocked in at 2.5 GHz. In addition, the Grand S3 features a 5.5 inch IPS display that renders the 1080p resolution along with 3 GB of RAM.

The smartphone's internal memory is 16 GB, which is insufficient but the company decided to present an expandable storage feature to potential consumers. Furthermore, two nanoSIMs can be used in the handset in a standby configuration and the 16 megapixel front camera sensor is able to record 4K videos. While the capped video recording frame rate was not mentioned by the company, it is possible that users will be able to record at the the aforementioned resolution at 30 FPS.

The Grand S3 also features a 3,300 mAh battery and is running Google's Android 4.4.4 KitKat platform 'out of the box.' PhoneArena states that the Grand S3 will be retailing for ¥2,999, or $480 and is currently only available in China. The firm has not stated whether or not the smartphone will be shipped out to other regions.
