ZTE Nubia Z9 release date: bezel-less handset coming to U.S. soon

The Nubia Z9 smartphone by Chinese telecom company ZTE Corporation is expected to be released in the U.S. by the third quarter of this year.

The exact date of the release hasn't been confirmed yet, but reports suggest it may show up within the next few months.

The ZTE Nubia Z9 smartphone, which was announced just last month in Beijing, China, sports a unique bezel-less design that comes with ZTE's Frame Interactive Technology (FiT).

The Nubia Z9 smartphone will come in three different versions to the U.S. One version, called the Classic edition, costs US$564 and comes with 3GB worth of RAM and 32GB internal storage memory.

Another version, called the Elite edition, costs US$645 and comes with 4GB worth of RAM and 64GB internal storage.

The last model, which is the Exclusive edition, will cost US$725 and has the same memory features as the Elite model, but also comes with ZTE's fingerprint sensor technology. The first two versions of the phone will not have this technology.

The three models will all have a 5.2 inch 1080 x 1920 resolution display screen and will run on the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

The Nubia Z9 uses an 8 mega pixel front-facing camera and a 16 mega pixel rear camera with autofocus and optical image stabilization features. It is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor and a 2,900mAh battery.

The Nubia Z9's Frame Interactive Technology enables users to access different features by touching the edge of the phone's display screen. With this technology, users can access the camera or switch between different apps using their fingers on the edge of the screen.

Another Chinese telecom company that's also reaching out for the U.S. market is Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. Huawei recently released its P8 lite smartphone, which costs US$249.99, just this month at an event in New York City.
