Anyone who has felt the sting of loss will know how coping can be tough and almost impossible to do alone. But in all things we do, we know that God is with us and that Jesus is our Emmanuel, meaning He will always be with us to bring comfort, nurture and hope.

Loss is difficult and hard to bear. When we've lost a loved one, a business, a job, a ministry or anything precious to us, we will be bombarded by questions that tend to shake our faith. Why did God let this happen? Does He really care about me? But no matter how grief-stricken we are, God's Word and His presence will always be there to bring us reassurance.

The choice is ours at the end of the day. We can allow grief and pain to shut us out from the God who heals and restores, or we can use it as motivation to approach His presence once more knowing that His grace through Christ will be sufficient to give us peace.

Here are 10 scriptures that teach us about God's sovereignty in the midst of loss.

2 Timothy 1:12 — "For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day."

Psalm 25:3 — "No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause."

Luke 1:37 — "For no word from God will ever fail."

Job 42:2 — "I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted."

Psalm 33:11 — "The Lord's plan stands firm forever. His thoughts stand firm in every generation."

Jeremiah 29:11 — "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."

John 16:33 — "I have told you this so that through me you may have peace. In the world you'll have trouble, but be courageous—I've overcome the world!"

Isaiah 12:2 — "Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation."

Psalm 46:10 — "Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"

2 Timothy 4:7 — "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
