Mazda has recently unveiled its upcoming 2017 CX-5 SUV at the recently concluded Los Angeles Auto Show. The second generation compact crossover SUV is almost identical to its predecessor, and it offers small improvements to its exterior and interiors.
Outside, the latest evolution of its Kodo design is very prominent on the upcoming vehicle. It includes a new front grille that sports a mesh pattern instead of the horizontal bars and accentuated by a shiny chrome lower section that merges lower area of its redesigned and smaller headlights, mentioned AutoBlog.
The front fender lines flow directly towards the doors that are similar to the car's smaller brethren, the CX-3. The door now holds smaller side mirrors, while the A-pillars are slightly moved further to the back to provide more forward visibility, according to Car and Driver.
The interior is similarly designed like the CX-9. A 4.6-inch color display is now placed beside the gauge cluster that also acts as the entertainment system. Audio is piped in through the 10-piece Bose sound system. A head-up display provides navigation instructions and rear seats now feature a two-way adjustable recline. Air conditioning vents are now provided for back-seat passengers.
Motor Report mentioned that the upcoming 2017 Mazda CX-5 is 15 percent stiffer than its predecessor due to the high-strength steel used on its exteriors, which is said to provide better handling and safety. The company also claims that it is now less noisy in the cabin with its improved noise suppression feature.
Under the hood, the company stated that there would be two engines available for the upcoming model. The Skyactiv 2.5-liter gasoline engine and the Skyactiv-D 2.2-liter diesel. Specifics are not yet released, but it is speculated to have around 184 horsepower for the gasoline engine, while the diesel one will generate 173 horsepower, which is similar to the current Mazda 3-series. Manual and automatic transmissions are also expected to arrive with the model.
The 2017 Mazda XC-5 is expected to land within the $23,000 to $30,000 price range and could arrive by early 2017.
