2018 'Call of Duty' might just be a 'Black Ops IV'

When it comes to first-shooter games, "Call of Duty" would usually be the first game people would think of. It looks like that will even continue next year as this year, 2018, the game is getting a new installment for the franchise. According to rumors, the game may be going back to the "Black Ops" series with the upcoming game being reported as "Black Ops IV."

While gamers may have already expected the news that Activision will be releasing another "Call of Duty" title, it is always interesting to see which direction the developer will take. It also would then not be much of a surprise if indeed it will turn out to be "Call of Duty: Black Ops IV." Being already the fourth title in the series, there will definitely be high expectations from gaming enthusiasts.

The rumors first brought it up when basketball superstar James Harden was seen wearing a camo suit from top to bottom in a video that was tweeted by ESPN. While this could just be a choice of fashion, since after all, wearing camo is a style, the context changes when noticing his cap. It strikes a resemblance to the "Black Ops" logo only that it has an extra "I."

Although of course, the logo is formatted after the roman numerals for the number three. Adding an extra "I" to be interpreted as four would not make much sense since four in Roman numerals is "IV." However, it seems like a trend now for game companies to not exactly follow tradition, such as with EA's next "Battlefield" game, which would be "Battlefield V" (instead of "Battlefield 2") following last year's "Battlefield 1."

According to Kotaku, they claim to have close sources confirming two things. First, the sources confirmed that the next game for the franchise is a "Black Ops" title, and second is that Harden is certainly wearing the logo of the new game on the hat.

While the numerals do not correspond to the proper Roman numerals, it may be interesting to note that it might not be the number system it is referring to. It could be similar to when doing tallies as number four would be represented by four letter "I's" and five would be four with a diagonal slash across the four "I's."
