3 promises couples expecting a baby can hold on to

Couples expecting a baby are sure to have many plans and dreams for their coming child. Sometimes there are difficulties in pregnancy and worries about the child's health. This is pretty normal and understandable.

But expectant moms and dads can always take refuge in the Lord. He has given promises that each expecting couple can and should hold on to. After all, He does not turn back on His words, and what He promises He will always fulfill.

God's promises to you and your unborn child

If you're a soon-to-be dad or mom, or you're a parent expecting another baby to come real soon, here are a few of God's promises you can and should hold on to:

1) Delivery - Isaiah 43:2

Isaiah 43:2 says, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze."

Every parent prays for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy delivery but we all know of people - even very faithful and devoted Christians - who have experienced tragedies in their pregnancies.  But God promises to be with us when everything is going well and when we feel like we are walking through the deepest waters.  For some women, the delivery is actually something they fear because of the pain and discomfort or because of some health issues, but we can trust God to be right there with us at that very moment.

2) Uniqueness and beauty - Psalm 139:13-15

"For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth."

God is personally at work in forming unborn children inside their mothers' wombs. We may not see it, but God is carefully and fearfully fashioning them according to His pleasure.  Every baby is beautiful, every life is created to be beautiful in its own unique way.  Your baby will be beautiful and unique too and this will be a joy to both God and to you.

3) Purpose and destiny - Psalm 139:16

"Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them."

God has a plan for all people. All of us do not know what will happen to us tomorrow or the following day, but God has already seen all our days happen before we were even born.

The Bible even says that God has already prepared for us the things we will be doing. We do not know what we will do in the future, but God does. Ephesians 2:10 tells us,

"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."

In closing

Dads and moms, I would like to encourage you. Put your hope and trust in the Lord. because "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame" (see Romans 10:11). We can count on that.
