3 tips to help you live a Spirit-led life

Living a Spirit-led life need not be hard for Christians who are truly born again in Christ. The Lord Jesus Himself said that entering the Kingdom of God "is impossible" for men, "but with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26).

We all know that entry to the Kingdom can only happen when one becomes born again through the Spirit (see John 3:5-8), and only those who are led by the Spirit of God can be called the sons of God (Romans 8:14).

We can't afford to live the Christian life in our own strength – we need to be led by the Holy Spirit!

Are you praying to the Lord to help you understand how to be led by the Spirit? Here are some tips to help you.

1. Put no provision for the flesh

Paul said in Romans 8:5-8, "For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God."

We must realise that if we want to be led by the Spirit of God, we need to put off our fleshly desires. "For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish." (Galatians 5:17)

2. Pray in the Spirit

Ephesians 6:18 tells us that we should "pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion."

"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." (Romans 8:26)

3. Check your life

The best way to check if you're learning to walk in the Spirit is through the fruits He has in your life. How's your character?

Do you have love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? (see Galatians 5:22-23)

Have you crucified the flesh with its desires? (Galatians 5:24)

Or do you still participate in adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like? (Galatians 5:19-21)

Check yourself, and if you see there's a lack of the Spirit's fruits in your life, desire to go deeper into the Lord.
