3 tips to help you share the Gospel effectively this Christmas

Christmas is the time when all the world knows that Christ has come. Although some might deny it and instead use simple non-Christian greetings like "happy holidays" or "season's greetings," the fact and truth remain the same: Christ came as God's provision for our salvation.

So, we should grab the opportunity to share the Gospel to people we know this Christmas. Because this season naturally points to the person in the word "Christmas," it naturally follows that we Christians should be more encouraged to share the truth about our Lord.

Difficulties

Some of us, however, find it difficult to share Christ to others even during Christmas season. We can find it easier to talk about food and investments and cars and everything except Jesus Christ's coming.

Some of us, on the other hand, do share the Gospel but find it hard because people often associate Christmas with gifts, food, and other things. How do we share it with them effectively?

To help us in the God-given privilege of sharing Christ to others during Christmas, here are a few tips for you:

1) Pray, pray, pray!

Nothing can ever compare to the power of prayer. Well, the act of praying itself is not powerful, but the response we receive from God in faith is what makes it powerful.

Before sharing the Gospel with any person, be it family or otherwise, choose to give time to pray. Before He went out to do His ministry, the Lord Jesus Himself prayed to God. If He did that, what makes us think we can do without it?

2) Decorate your home with items you can use to share the Gospel

Next, as a practical measure that could be quite handy when placed right, choose to decorate your home with items that you can use when you share the Gospel. For example:

  • Decorating the house with lights can be used to point out what the Bible says about our character as "lights of the world."
  • Placing red decorations on the Christmas tree can be used to illustrate Christ's blood on the "tree."
  • Gift boxes beneath the Christmas tree could illustrate that the gift of salvation is a free gift in Christ.
  • An illuminated wall cross or star to remember the birth of Christ
  • A small Nativity scene on your sideboard or fire surround - or a large one in your front garden!

There are many other decorations, but it's up to you what to use.

3) Focus on what matters most - the coming of the Saviour, Jesus Christ

Lastly, there's nothing better than to just focus on Christ Jesus, the reason why we celebrate Christmas anyway. When we share, we should just focus on what Christ did, and what He said.

Some find sharing the Gospel very hard because they try to "simplify" things but instead end up adding more details that they themselves could not explain.

And so, choose to focus on what Christ has done. Focus on what He said and what He taught - after all, that's what we were called to spread to the Good News of Christ:

"And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."" (Mark 16:15)

In closing

Friends, we should be excited to point people to Christ this Christmas. Let's do all that we can to succeed in what Christ has commanded us to do:

"And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen." (Matthew 28:18-20)
