Success and failure both exist in the lives of people around the world, Christian or not.

Christians, however, have an edge in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is able to give hope to those who feel hopeless, weak, and powerless in the face of adversity and difficulty.

Christ empowers every believer so that we can stand against anything that discourages us. Through Him we can face any problem, trial, and unpleasant circumstance with boldness, fearlessness, and a hope of victory.

Friend, do you feel defeated or hopeless right now? If you do, or you know somebody who does, I pray that God's Word will encourage and empower you.

Here are a few Bible verses we should all read, believe, obey, and meditate on when we feel defeated and hopeless in the face of adversity. God is good, and His Word will sustain us.

Five Bible verses for when you feel defeated and hopeless

Recognize that we are in constant battle with unseen enemies - Ephesians 6:10-13

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

God has determined the limits of the tests that come our way - Isaiah 54:16-17

""Behold, I have created the blacksmith who blows the coals in the fire, who brings forth an instrument for his work; And I have created the spoiler to destroy. No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me," says the Lord."

Keep in mind that all things work for the good of those who love God - Romans 8:28-29

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren."

Rejoice in the truth that we can come to God through Christ - Philippians 4:4-7

"Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Rejoice in the truth that the testing of our faith will bring praise to Christ our Lord - 1 Peter 1:6-9

"In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen[a] you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls."
