A new 'NBA Jam' 25th anniversary game might be coming out soon

The last time gamers ever heard of a game release for the "NBA Jam" series was back in 2011 with "NBA Jam: On Fire Edition." Since then, there has not been much news about a new game in the works. However, as 2018 will be the game's 25th anniversary, Microsoft is reportedly planning to bring the game back to life.

This 25th-anniversary game does not have many details yet about what it is going to include and how it will differ from the last games. With a seven-year time gap from the latest title, fans are definitely going to expect a lot. Many are hoping that it still gives the NBA action that people look for when they play the game.

According to ESPN, Tim Kitzrow, one of the voice actors in the "NBA Jam" series, first made the reveal of a revival for the game. "I can't say anything to the specifics, but I can tell you there is movement in the works to get it done for the 25th year," said Kitzrow. "So I'm hoping that we get a remake that does justice to the original."

The original game's creator, Mark Turmell, hopes that it would be released this year if they were indeed working on the new game. As the game will be made courtesy of Microsoft, Turmell would unlikely be getting any role in its development. Fans would know that his involvement is doubly unlikely because he has also left Electronic Arts (EA) where he published the game and has moved to Zynga back in 2011.

Even if Microsoft gets to complete the game, the rights for it to be released still lie with EA. A deal will inevitably happen to get the game released. Given that the new game will seemingly be made by an entirely new team, it can cause a bit of doubt. Nevertheless, a deal with EA can fix that.

Since it is Microsoft, fans can possibly expect the game to be an exclusive for their Xbox One consoles. Hopefully, more details should come out soon.
