Action-adventure platforming game "Aegis Defenders" is slated for a Steam release today, Feb. 9.

The official synopsis on Steam reads: "Take on wild beasts, ruthless soldiers, and ancient gods in this 2D Action-Platformer inspired by Tower-Defense combat."

Developed by GUTS department, "Aegis Defenders" is a game full of vivid colors and bright explosions. The game is set in an alternate world where humanity has returned to the dark ages. Remnants of technology still exist and are highly sought after, but for the wrong reasons and for power.

The game follows a group of four ruin hunters as they journey through dungeons in search of the ultimate weapon known as the Aegis. An evil empire has arisen and threatens to destroy the village. Getting their hands on the Aegis is the players' only way to save their village and thwart the empire's plans.

According to video-game news website IGN, Bryan Kho, the game's director, explained that "Aegis Defenders" was influenced by "Persona," "Pikmin" and "Overcooked." Kho also mentioned that many of the game's mechanics —including the party-swapping mechanic — was inspired by "Pikmin's" battle mechanics and "Overcooked's" collaborative gameplay. He wanted to throw in the collaborative spirit into his own game but was worried players might prefer to stick to playing just one of the ruin hunters instead of using all four to their fullest abilities.

Game mechanics aside, it was reported that "Aegis Defenders" will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

An announcement trailer was uploaded to Nintendo's YouTube channel on Jan. 25. Approximately one minute and 50-seconds long, the trailer gave players a glimpse of the game's platform, in-game user display and split-screen co-op. Aside from being able to play "Aegis Defenders" by themselves, gamers will also be able to team up with a friend and find the Aegis together.

"Aegis Defenders" will be coming to the PlayStation 4, PC and the Nintendo Switch.
