Android 4.4 KitKat update for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 rolls out but Verizon model still waiting

 Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Samsung was extending its Android 4.4 KitKat update today to owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo version.

The Neo released just recently but was still running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, like the original September-released Note 3, despite coming out after the Android 4.4 update roll out started back in January.

It's getting the update ahead of owners of the Verizon Note 3 who are still hanging around long after it has already been pushed out to the AT&T, US Cellular, Sprint and T-Mobile models.

However, the Neo update is only for the South Korean model SM-N750S.  It's not clear when it will be pushed out to other regions but having released in South Korean giant Samsung's home market we can expect it won't be too long.  The whole roll out process is likely to last several months.

The upgrade will improve the device's performance and make a number of changes, such as changing the status bar to white.

It's over-the-air (OTA) or via Samsung Kies.

There has been no word from Verizon about when it will be pushing out Android 4.4 to its users so for now they will have to continue using the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

There is speculation that Verizon may wait to roll it out for Note 3 and S4 owners around the same time, and that for the Note 3 at least it will possibly be May 2.
