October 14 has been doing the rounds for some time now as the possible release date of the Android 4.4 KitKat update and this week a Nestle employee seemed to confirm the October part at least.

A posting to Nestle's Facebook account in Germany let slip: "Android 4.4 KIT KAT ist ab Oktober verfügbar", which translates as "Android 4.4 KIT KAT is available from October".

Google announced its partnership with the biscuit brand earlier this month and insisted it was not a money deal.

"As everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats, Kit Kat!" Google said.

So what can we expect from the Android 4.4 KitKat? Well, Google was elusive in a statement: "It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody."

No clues there then, although it's possible that it means older devices that missed out on Android 4.0 updates will be able to update to the 4.4.

According to Ausdroid, there will be fragmentation changes (screen resizing), miracast updates, new gallery visualisation, new API's regarding animations, colour changes, and new notification widgets.

If October 14 turns out to be the release date of the Android 4.4 KitKat, that would put it close to the release of the Nexus 5 and new Nexus 10 from Asus, as well as being a day before the release of the rumored iPad mini 2 and iPad launch event from Apple.

Twitter user Llab TooFeR (@LlabTooFeR) got tech fans speculating on the prospects for HTC devices after tweeting: "2012 devices won't get it...only butterfly/droid dna might 4.4..."

According to Llab TooFer, that means HTC One X, HTC One X+ and HTC One S won't be able to get the Android 4.4 KitKat update.

If it's true, that not so good news for HTC One owners.
