People are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new Android Marshmallow update for their phones, and Motorola owners now have dates to look forward to as well.

With the Android Marshmallow update expected to be released alongside this year's Nexus phones first, it's expected to begin rolling out in earnest not too long after that.

Motorola phone owners, and more specifically, those who have the 1st and 2nd gen Moto G phones, don't look like they have to wait for long before they get their hands on the new operating system (OS).

According to Android Standard, the 1st, 2nd, and even 3rd gen Google Play versions of the Moto G can expect to receive the Marshmallow update around October.

As for the retail versions of these phones, it is believed that the 1st and 2nd gen versions of the Moto G will be getting the Marshmallow update by the start of next year, while the 3rd gen variant is expected to receive it a few months earlier, either in November or December.

Other phones that may be receiving the Android Marshmallow update soon include the Moto X models.

For the most part, the Moto X phones are already running the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS, so it will not be too big of a leap towards the Marshmallow update.

The first phones from the Moto X line expected to receive the Marshmallow update are the Pure Editions, while the X2 and X Play are also rumored to get the new OS before the end of the year. The remaining phones from the Moto X line can then expect to receive the Android Marshmallow update right around the beginning of next year.

As for the Moto E line, there is currently no estimate for when these phones might receive the new OS, according to Yibada.

More details are expected to be revealed once Google has formally launched the Android Marshmallow OS.
