Android O updates: Upcoming OS to lengthen device's battery life, save important details automatically

The Android O is not expected to be officially unveiled until next week's Google I/O conference to be held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, but this early, many are already anticipating the features it will come with.

According to reports, Android O will enable devices to have longer battery life as it will restrict the activity of background apps. With the restriction of these background apps, a device can be power-efficient as its battery will not be easily drained.

Apart from extending the battery life of a tablet or a smartphone, Android O is also expected to introduce an autofill function that will be used for storing data, like usernames, passwords, addresses, or credit card details as it automatically fills out the form.

Reports also claim the Android O will deliver a "Picture in Picture" (PIP) display feature, which will enable Android users to use other apps while watching a video. The upcoming OS is also said to give Android users more freedom in managing their notifications, having more options to decide which ones they want to receive.

The Android O is also said to introduce a visual change to devices running on Android as it is said to usher in adaptive icons. With these icons, it will be easier for developers to create different designs, shapes, and other options for their icons and make them blend with the style of the system.

Meanwhile, it is suspected that Android O will eventually be called Android Oreo. As Google is known for borrowing names of sweet snacks and assign them to its OS, such as the Android KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, and Nougat, some believe that Android O will not be an exception.

Android Oreo, or Android O for now, is expected to debut in Google's newest Pixel smartphones before making it to other devices beginning this fall.
