'Anthem' news: Upcoming game's writer resigns from development company

Apparently, the developers of "Anthem" are now singing its goodbye dues to the game's lead writer, as Drew Karpyshyn recently announced that he was quitting the company amid the ongoing development.

Karpyshyn, not only the lead writer for "Anthem" but also for BioWare development studios as a whole, has officially left the company on March 2. As such, "Anthem" was left in the hands of the other writers for BioWare and it remains to be seen what changes this will bring to the game's plot and story. Still, this does not mean the end of "Anthem" since the game will still follow its officially announced development roadmap.

The 46-year-old writer also explained that the reason he left the company in the middle of development for an AAA game is that he had other commitments which apparently need his attention more than "Anthem" does. Fans of Karpyshyn will recall that the writer is also a novelist and has published a good number of book series such as "Chaos Born" trilogy.

"Everyone who works at BioWare pours their heart and soul into the games they are making. It's creatively demanding and — at times — exhausting. In the past, I've managed to juggle outside projects with my work at BioWare, but it always took a toll. And there were always outside projects I had to pass on because they would represent a conflict of interest with BioWare or EA properties," revealed Karpyshyn.

With this in mind, he chose to focus on his freelance work as a novelist and unbound writer instead. He also would have loved to give a lot more details regarding what other projects he is working on such as novels and graphic novels but those will have to wait until he has made progress.

It can be recalled that this was not the first time Karpyshyn quit BioWare since back in 2012, he quit for the same reason, but back then he had to focus on "Chaos Born." Though he revealed last year that he returned to BioWare and was actually working with them on some games as the lead writer.

Meanwhile, the remaining executives of BioWare have assured fans that Karpyshyn's departure will not affect the quality of "Anthem." They are making this assurance because he is appreciated as one of the best video game writers known to the studio and his departure may cause the game enthusiasts to worry about how the game will turn out without him.
