The new Archbishop of Hong Kong will address members of the Church of Ireland on the transformation of the Anglican Church in Hong Kong at a forthcoming lecture.
"Colonial Legacy to Chinese Church - The transformation of the Anglican Church in Hong Kong" is the title of this year's Godrey Day Memorial Lecture to be delivered by the Most Rev Paul Kwong.
The lecture will be hosted by Dublin University Far East Mission, a mission agency of the Church of Ireland, on 19 April at Trinity College Dublin.
Archbishop Kwong will speak about the transformation of the Anglican Church in Hong Kong from a colonial legacy to a truly Chinese Church.
The lecture will be chaired by the Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Rev Dr John Neill, who is a patron of DUFEM and who attended Archbishop Kwong's enthronement in Hong Kong in January.
Archbishop Kwong's great-grandfather was one of the first Chinese Anglican priests. Archbishop Kwong was ordained in 1982 before becoming curate of Holy Trinity Church for four years, vicar of St Matthias's Church for more than 10 years, and the founder of two mission churches, Saint Philip's and the Church of the Ascension. He was consecrated Bishop of Hong Kong island in March 2006, and was elected Archbishop and Primate of Hong Kong in February 2006.
Over the last 25 years, he has been Chairman of the Diocesan Youth Committee, lecturer at Minghua Theological College, assistant to the Archbishop, Provincial General Secretary, and a member of the Anglican Communion's Mission Commission.
