BMW has unveiled its smallest crossover car yet, the 2018 X2. The vehicle is part of its Sports Activity Coupe line and takes the concept to another level with a design that looks less like a crossover and more like a hatchback.

BMW described the new X2 as having "an unmistakable design with sporty yet urban genes." The vehicle is designed from the wheelbase of the more conventional X1, but with some body reductions applied. The X2 is 3.2 inches shorter and 2.8 inches lower to the ground compared to the X1. Due to this, the vehicle has a very unique look that, while donning sleek hatchback elements, still looks like a proper Sport Utility Vehicle.

The 2018 X2 also sports a Frozen Gray lower body detailing, which according to the BMW was inspired by rally racing. The interiors of the X2 consists of typical BMW material. Its floating-style 6.5-inch infotainment screen is located on the dashboard, and below that, there is a physical switchgear for climate control and radio.

The rear seats are split into 40-20-40 sections, and each one of them can be lowered to increase the vehicle's cargo capacity.

When the X2 launches in the spring, there will only be one option for its engine, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This engine outputs 222 horsepower and 258 pound-feet torque. It will have a standard eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive.

The X2 will have an M Sport X variant available. This will add a sport setting in its transmission, which speeds up the vehicles upshifts and downshifts. The variant will also include paddle shifters to the steering wheel, larger wheels, and an aluminum trim, as well as perforated Dakota leather on the interior.

BMW will also offer optional packages that include safety systems like automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and automatic high beams.
