Midseason finales have almost always dealt with cliffhangers that make the wait for its return almost unbearable. "Bones" season 11 is not an exception. It dealt with heartbreaking news following a bombing case. And when the crime-procedural dramedy returns, the characters lives will be changed forever.

"Bones" season 11 has not yet pinned a return date from it midseason finale last week. But executive producer John Collier has been generously giving out details on both the final episode before the break and the first one on its return, that will surely make fans a bit more excited for next year.

In a post-midseason finale, Collier spoke to TVLine about the decision to include Dr. Jack Hodgins (T. J. Thyne) and Agent James Aubrey (John Boyd) in the heartbreaking bombing incident. He admitted that they never meant to kill the two off, jokingly adding that they are "not 'Game of Thrones.'" Then he spoke of why they had to paralyse Hodgins.

"This isn't just about Hodgins. This is about Hodgins and Angela as a couple. We really want to test their relationship, and we figured this would be a good way to do it. It's going to get really difficult for them. We believe in them as a couple, but we really want to push them... There's a good chance he will never walk again," Collier recounts.

So fans can expect a whole lot of drama for the husband and wife when season 11 returns.

But another romantic angle to be explored is that of Aubrey's and Karen (Sara Rue), the latter appearing in at least two more episodes, says the showrunner. He also said that if that romantic angle does not work out, Aubrey is surely set to have some romantic complications ahead.

Of course, everyone's favourite "Bones" couple also has something in store for them for the midseason return. Collier admits that Bones (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) will be put "under duress" because of an external source. He did not go into detail, though, and fans will have to watch out for that.

Watch all the romantic complications unfold when "Bones" season 11 returns to FOX in 2016.
