Boruto meets a mysterious student in the upcoming episode of "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations."

The latest episode of "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" left off with Konoha Academy in ruins after a fight between Boruto's classmates. The warring groups eventually teamed up when a giant snake summoned by Boruto ended up relentlessly attacking them all. One of the highlights of the episode was the final scene hinting at a new character, who appears to be hiding in the shadows. The figure was seen standing on a rooftop, but his identity was not revealed at the time.

This week's episode 5 will finally resolve that mysterious cliffhanger. Aptly titled "The Mysterious Transfer Student," the upcoming episode features the arrival of a new transfer student named Mitsuki at Konoha Academy. Determined to become a ninja, the enigmatic young boy will cross paths with Boruto and his friends. It will later be revealed that Mitsuki is the child of Orochimaru.

It is worth noting that this is not Mitsuki's first appearance in the anime universe. The character was already introduced in the 2015 animated film "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" when he was tasked to be on Boruto's genin squad alongside Sarada Uchiha.

As expected, Mitsuki was not conceived through conventional means. The snake sannin made his son from the embryo of one of his previous "Mitsuki" projects. Following six failed attempts, Orochimaru successfully cloned Mitsuki and decided to keep him alive. The only problem was that the young boy wanted to be free.

In the original manga, Orochimaru agreed to let Mitsuki go as part of a more sinister plan. He intentionally planted a gift on Mitsuki which conditioned his mind to find Boruto. He did it to make Naruto's eldest son train Mitsuki and make him a great fighter as well.

The fifth episode of "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" airs Wednesday, May 3, at 5:55 p.m. JST on TV Tokyo.
