Chewbacca mom: 'Do not try to make a name for yourself; God's name will always out shadow yours'

The American worship leader who became an internet sensation after posting a video of herself laughing at a Chewbacca mask has urged young people not to seek after fame.

Speaking to students at The Oaks Fellowship, her church just outside Dallas, Texas, Candace Payne said the most important thing young people can do is look to God.

"When I was 16 I had a vision and a dream from the Lord about my future being used for his glory. I didn't understand the interpretation of it. I still, to this day at 37 years old, try to figure that dream out. But that dream has never left my heart, nor my mind, nor the way that I walk and follow Jesus," she said.

"I know what God has gifted me in many different areas, and sometimes I wake up and feel like I'm a jack of many trades and a master of none because I have that creative buzz in me constantly going."

She continued: "Can I tell you what I've learned?... It doesn't matter how talented, how anointed, how gifted, how passionate or how willing you are, if you're not fit to do the things that God has called you to do. And that is spiritually fit."

Three things will "take you further and farther in the Kingdom of God," Payne added.

"Diligence – be diligent in the work of the Lord. Patience – have those moments where you stop and wait upon the Lord. Don't rush into ministry or a good opportunity because it looks shiny; wait for the voice of God to direct you. And then the third thing... is have obedience. When he tells you 'move', move. When he tells you 'stop', stop. When he tells you 'indulge in the delights of my table', indulge, but when he tells you 'that's not yours, you can't have it', step away.

"Do not try to make a name for yourself. His name will always out shadow yours."

Payne's video has now reached more than 140 million views on Facebook, making it the most watched Facebook Live video ever. She has appeared on the Late Late Show with James Corden, and met Star Wars: The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Payne said she simply wanted to spread a little joy.

"I think the world as a whole, is in need of a good laugh," she said. "I think we're in need of somebody to lift our spirits, to not take ourselves too seriously and to break some cynicism – worldwide."
