Christian radio host John Balyo arrested for child sex abuse, donation appeal for wife

John Balyo Calhoun County Jail

Friends of the wife of embattled Christian radio host John Balyo are asking for donations after her husband was arrested June 20 on child sex charges.

A crowdfunding page is seeking $50,000 to support her and her son as they deal with court costs, counselling, loss of income, and other hardships stemming from his arrest.

The WCSG personality was taken into custody at the Big Ticket Festival – an annual Christian music conference held in Michigan. Authorities said Balyo paid a man, Ronald Moser, to arrange a sexual encounter for him with a male child.

When officials searched a storage unit rented by Balyo, they found duct tape, handcuffs, chains, and other items as part of a "bondage kit". They also found a padlock, children's socks, rubber gloves, and clippings of missing child reports and child obituaries.

The 35-year-old admitted to sexually abusing a child under 13 at an arraignment on June 23, and was charged with first- and second-degree sexual misconduct. A hearing is scheduled for July 7.

His wife married Balyo just seven weeks before his arrest.  The crowdfunding page tells her supporters that the events have shattered her life.

"This now single mom is now experiencing something that no person should have to endure," the YouCaring crowdfunding page reads.

'Your generosity and compassion will help Bethany and her son with unexpected expenses such as counselling, medical care, loss of income, Bethany's personal court costs and just everyday living expenses due to these tragic circumstances.

"Bethany has always been the first one to reach out and help others, now it's our turn to help her and her son."

Over $9,800 has been raised so far.

The comments section of the crowdfunding page was filled with best wishes and prayers for Bethany and her son during this difficult time.

"You are in my prayers. May God give you strength and a peace that passes understanding," Sherrie Phillips wrote.

"Praying for you, your son, today and in the days to come!" an anonymous person added.

"Bethany words cannot express the grief we feel for you and your family," another donor said. "May the LORD bless you and keep you, may HIS face shine upon you and give you peace."
