Faith-based films normally veer away from taboo topics such as murder, sexual abuse and depression.

However, the psychological thriller "Wildflower" addresses these issues head-on while still maintaining "an incredible heart for Christ."

Shari Rigby, who stars in the film as a Christian mom named Nicole, told The Christian Post that the film's level of mystery is what drew her to the project in the first place.

"I'm so excited about this new movie, 'Wildflower.' I love playing this part of her mother and I love that you don't really know what's going on," Rigby said. "It's very 'Sixth Sense'-ish, but it's done with such an incredible heart for Christ. I love bringing the faith element to a psychological thriller."

Rigby said the film's message of psychological distress has resonated well with the viewers. She is glad that the movie has opened up a sensitive dialogue on the subject within the Christian community.

"It's something that's so prevalent [but one] that we don't really talk about—the hidden traumas that have gone on in childhood. It can be from a car accident, or from something that's much worse," Rigby said.

"People are understanding that it's not a topic that has been really addressed in our churches and in our circles of influence. So I think that is another part of it. That makes it very special, because there's something that is now starting to be revealed that we are discussing more of, and God wants that," she continued.

Rigby also said that God uses every single thing in people's lives for His glory and His good. Even though there will be times of oppression or depression, God will still make something wonderful out of it.

"So often we forget that even in the darkest of times, most negative of times, anything that we've gone through, that it has some of the most powerful positive impact," she said. "Not only on our own life but on others because we can honestly step up and say, 'That's something I went through, I faced that.'"

"Wildflower" will be featured on the Lifetime movie network in June.

More recently, I’ve enjoyed Christian movies Unsung Hero and Jesus Revolution on limited release in the UK, but it’s rare for such films to make the multiplex chains.
