It is rumored that Android apps will soon be made available for laptops running on Chrome OS and they will be in the millions.

A reddit user named TheWiseYoda was tinkering with the Chrome OS and was surprised to see a checkbox that says: "Enable Android apps to run on your Chromebook." This option didn't linger and quickly disappeared. The said user decided to investigate further and checked out the source code, which showed even more. One of the lines says, "Over a million apps and games now available on your Chromebook."

Upon hearing about this latest finding, the Chrome OS community began rejoicing because finally, they will be able to access the Google Play Store.

Many Chromebook users have been complaining for quite some time now about the lack of support for the Chrome OS. All the attention seems to have been going to the Android mobile OS. There was even a rumor that Chrome OS would soon be phased out and fused with Android, a notion that fans seemed to have accepted wholeheartedly -- that is, until Google denied the rumor. The community then thought that, soon, Android apps will become compatible with Chrome OS, and according to XDA-developers, nobody knew when exactly that will happen, until now.

Arstechnica added that if Google Play will soon arrive on the Chrome OS, then the Google Web Store might be seeing its last days. The Google Web Store started way back in December 2010 and is being used by the Google Chrome browser to download and install web applications.

The latest findings with Google's operating system have also made its fans long for the Google I/O 2016 event to start immediately. Many are expecting that this feature may be announced at the upcoming software developer conference, which is set to start on May 18 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, and will run until May 20.

Additionally, it is expected that the conference will give way to Android N (along with its release name), virtual reality, Project Tango, Android Wear, self-driving cars, and other projects by Google.

If this rumor with the Google Play proves to be true, Christmas season will start early for Chrome OS users.
