The Cleveland Browns are expected to stick with quarterback Johnny Manziel as their starter moving forward after his performance in last Sunday's 28–14 win against the 2015 no. 2 pick quarterback Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans.
Manziel was given his first start of the season with original starting quarterback Josh McCown being in the National Football League's (NFL) concussion protocol.
"Johnny Football" did not disappoint and showed why he was one of the top prospects entering the 2014 NFL Draft and a Heisman Trophy winner in 2012.
Manziel had eight completions for 172 yards and two touchdowns, although he had two fumbles.
But overall, it was a great performance for the 22-year-old quarterback who focused on football in the offseason following his rehab.
Manziel threw a 60-yards pass to wide receiver Travis Benjamin for the game's first touchdown and a 7–0 lead.
The Browns closed the first half up 21–0 as they scored two more touchdowns in the first and second quarter courtesy of running back Benjamin and Isaiah Crowell.
Tennessee tried to rally scoring a touchdown each in the third and fourth quarter to narrow the deficit to 21–14, but Manziel and Benjamin struck again.
Manziel once again connected with Benjamin with a 50-yard pass for another touchdown that sealed their first win in the 2015 season.
It was not just the playmaking and passes of Manziel that gave him a standout performance, but also his way of escaping defenders.
There were instances against the Titans wherein Manziel avoided the defense by spinning away, a move he was seen doing playing for Texas A&M in his collegiate years.
His Titans counterpart, Mariota, did fine but was unable to repeat his stellar debut performance wherein he threw for four touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.
Facing the Browns, Mariota had 21 completions for 257 yards and two touchdowns, but was sacked seven times.
Manziel and the Browns will continue their homestand in Week 3 against the Oakland Raiders who also captured their first win last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
