An inter-conference battle will take place this Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park as the Colorado Rapids host D.C. United in their first and only meeting this season in Major League Soccer (MLS).

The Rapids are coming off a tough 2–0 loss in their most recent league match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC last Wednesday.

Colorado's defeat to the Caps ended a three-match winning streak that saw the club defeat the Chicago Fire (1–0), Houston Dynamo (2–1), and Sporting Kansas City (2–1).

The Rapids are currently second to the last in the Western Conference with 33 points (8–10–9), eight points behind the final playoff spot currently held by the Portland Timbers who have 41 points tied with Seattle Sounders FC and Sporting KC.

Colorado is just currently one point ahead of the last place Real Salt Lake (RSL) who will also be in action Saturday against the Dynamo.

A victory will be huge for the Rapids as it will give them 36 points, enough to surpass Houston for the eighth spot in the West.

Meanwhile, United also aim to return on the winning track as they are currently on a three-match losing slide in the MLS heading to Saturday's matchup against Colorado.

The streak saw them lose to New York City FC (NYC FC) (3–1), the San Jose Earthquakes (2–0), and New York Red Bulls (3–0).

United was formerly the top club in the Eastern Conference but the string of losses kept them at 44 points which allowed the Red Bulls to secure the number 1 spot in the conference with 45 points after winning two straight matches.

But a victory for United against the Rapids will give them 47 points, which would catapult them back to the lead in the East and would make them the number 2 club in the Supporters' Shield standings.

The match between the Colorado Rapids and D.C. United will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 9 p.m. EST, to watch via live stream click here.
