Dallas Cowboys roster rumors 2015: Brandon Carr undergoes surgery for broken hand

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr is set to go through surgery Monday in Dallas after suffering a broken right hand during their practice Thursday.

According to ESPN, Carr was injured in press coverage with a receiver; and head coach Jason Garrett believes the injury is the same with what former Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray suffered last season.

In the 2014 season, Murray broke his fourth metacarpal in Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles but was able to return and play again just after six days.

Murray then wore a hard plastic shell on top of his glove for extra protection until the end of the season.

"The biggest thing with this is getting the surgery done correctly, which we're confident that's going to happen, then handling the incision and seeing what he's capable of doing," Garrett said regarding Carr's situation.

Good thing the Cowboys did not practice last Friday and Carr was able to attend the walk-through Saturday.

The 29-year-old cornerback said Saturday he was feeling okay but it was not for him to determine.

"I'll listen to the medical staff and the decision they make, and I'm going to follow through with the plan to make sure I'm healthy for Day 1," Carr added, according to ESPN.

Carr stated that it is not the first time in his eight-year career that he would miss action because of an injury.

"I kind of got a feel for what it takes to get prepared for games. It just comes down to just being confident in your ability on the field on Sunday," he also said.

Carr is expecting that he would miss some preseason games, believing it is better for him and the team as they prepare for the regular season.

But Garrett does not want to rule out Carr for the remainder of training camp and expects him to be back soon, ESPN reported.
