According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brolin signed on for a four-film deal. Prior to the actor's casting, Michael Shannon and David Harbour were rumored to be contenders for the role.

Based on the comic books written by Rob Liefeld and Louise Simson, Cable is a time-displaced mutant with telekinetic abilities. He is the son of Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor, Jean Grey's clone. In the books, an impending apocalypse and a threat to his life urge his father to transport him to the future, so he could be cared for by his half-sister Rachel.

With Brolin's recent casting, Cable will be the actor's second character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). To note, he portrays the galactic big bad Thanos in the MCU. He is expected to appear as Thanos in "Avengers: Infinity War," which will debut in 2018.

Reynolds joked about the recent casting. He turned to Twitter to say, "The f-, Fox! You can't play 2 characters in the same universe!! Josh Brolin was in Sicario and I was in Sabrina the Teenage Witch."

Aside from Brolin, there has only been one other person to portray two Marvel characters, Chris Evans. The actor currently takes on the role of Captain America in the MCU, but he used to star as Johnny Storm in Fox's "Fantastic Four" adaptation.

Brolin will be joined by Zazie Beetz in "Deadpool 2." The latter will portray the mutant called Domino. The character is Cable's partner, as well as his love interest. Kerry Washington and Keira Knightley were both rumored to play the part.

"Deadpool 2" starts production this June in Vancouver. It is expected to premiere sometime next year, 2018.

More updates should arrive soon.
