'Deadpool 2' release date: Mackenzie Davis and Kyle Chandler casting rumors debunked

Deadpool 20th Century Fox

"Deadpool" has risen to become one of the most successful Rated-R films of all time, and it comes as no surprise that a sequel has been greenlit. The film is slated to premiere by Jan. 12, 2018, and rumors have suggested that actors Kyle Chandler and Mackenzie Davis have been cast. These rumors have now been debunked.

According to a report from ScreenCrush, Davis has been reportedly tapped to play the character Domino. However, the actress herself stated in an interview with GQ that she has yet to have a conversation with Marvel or with Twentieth Century Fox about playing the character for "Deadpool 2."

"No. It's very interesting. People keep sending me printouts being like, 'This is so cool' and I'm like, 'Right? I also think it's cool! But it's not true.' I mean. I'd love to keep the ruse going. It's sort of cool that people think I'm doing 'Deadpool.' But no! I don't have any news to share. I wish I did," she explained.

Chandler has not yet confirmed nor denied his involvement with the sequel, but "Deadpool" creator Rob Liefeld has stated in a report from Nerdy Pop that even he is unaware if the actor has been approached and cast for the role of Cable, a time-travelling mutant who happens to be the future son of "X-Men" characters Scott Summers aka Cyclops (Tye Sheridan/James Marsden) and a clone of Jean Grey (Sophie Turner/Famke Janssen).

He did note that if the studios cast Chandler, they should count themselves lucky. He then continues to praise Chandler as an actor, pointing out that Chandler has worked with some of the best directors in the industry, including Martin Scorsese.

Liefeld also stated that fans should put their trust in the creative team behind "Deadpool 2" as they have already delivered a well-received first film and that are likely to put just as much effort in the second entry.
