The role-playing game (RPG) "Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age" is getting a Nintendo Switch version that is currently being developed using the Unreal Engine 4.

The news was revealed by the series creator Yuji Horii while he was speaking at the Unreal Fest East hosted by Epic Games Japan this weekend. The Unreal Engine is the same one used in the PlayStation 4 version of the game, which has been released in Japan earlier this year.

Although the Japanese game designer was not sure if he can discuss the Switch version being developed, he announced it anyway, to the delight of Dragon Quest fans.

Unreal Engine previously did not support the new Nintendo console until the release of version 4.15. "Dragon Quest XI" was developed using version 4.13, which is most likely the reason why there had been no Nintendo Switch footage released yet.

The use of the Unreal Engine suggests that the Nintendo Switch version will be closer to the PS4 version than the Nintendo 3DS version, which has also been made available in Japan.

"Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age" is the 11th title in the Dragon Quest video game series. The game is developed and published by Square Enix. The game is a huge hit in Japan, with over three million copies sold.

The game was released for PS4 and Nintendo 3DS in Japan on July 29. A North American release for these platforms is scheduled some time in 2018, although the makers have not announced a specific date yet. It is also not yet known when upcoming port to the Nintendo Switch will be available.

With the Unreal Engine update allowing support for the Nintendo Switch, a number of other titles from Japan are now working on Nintendo Switch versions, including "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night" and "Shin Megami Tensei."

More recently, I’ve enjoyed Christian movies Unsung Hero and Jesus Revolution on limited release in the UK, but it’s rare for such films to make the multiplex chains.
