"Fairy Tail" chapter 505 ended with Makarov Dreyar making the ultimate sacrifice to save "his precious little brats." Now that the guild master is gone, what will the mages do in order to ensure that his sacrifice is not in vain?

Fans will recall that while a war was ensuing between the mages and the Alvarez Empire, two of the manga's major characters, Natsu Dragneel and Gray Fullbuster, were locked in a senseless fight. Little did they know that something big was happening on the battlefield.

Eileen unleashed her Berserker spell, which boosted the power and combat abilities of the Alvarez soldiers while diminishing their reasoning. With the Fairy Tail mages unable to stop them, Makarov decided to use a magical technique called Fairy Law. While the young ones thought it would ensure their victory, Mavis Vermillion, the guild's first master, disagreed.

Mavis, who managed to escape from Eileen, tried to stop Makarov from performing the spell because it diminishes one's life, proportionate to the number of enemies on which it is directed at. Given that they're fighting an entire army, it would undoubtedly cost Makarov his life. He, however, refused to listen because, unlike her who deems the mages as soldiers, he considers them as his "irreplaceable children." He would offer his life to give them a bright future.

To the sadness of the mages, Makarov cast the spell. It was so strong that even Natsu and Gray, who were some distance away, felt it.

It is unlikely that they would take Makarov's sacrifice lightly, so fans can expect that in "Fairy Tail" chapter 506, the members of the guild will have a renewed determination to take down the enemy.

According to The BitBag, Mavis will decide to avenge Makarov. The others, too, including Natsu and Gray, will rise above their personal concerns and fight together against their foes. Movie News Guide, on the other hand, says that Natsu will defeat Gray before going to the guild to face off against Eileen or August.

It remains to be seen if learning about what Makarov did would prompt Natsu and Gray to set aside their differences at some point and work together for a common goal. Perhaps, the latter would calm down once he sees that Juvia is still alive.
