Floyd Mayweather Jr. news 2015: Is boxing looking for the next great white hope?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. may have retired from the boxing scene but that hasn't stopped him from taking potshots at the sport. Apparently, he has taken aim at it again from the bleachers and has raised an issue concerning Andre Ward.

Ward is said to be being forced to move up to the light heavyweight division and Mayweather seems to think that there is a conspiracy somewhere. In an interview with Ben Thompson of FightHype, Mayweather shared that he thinks Ward has the tools to replace him as the dominant fighter in their division but a jump to the light heavyweight ranks will prevent that from happening.

It is here where he thinks that boxing is leaning toward having a white fighter to rein in the ranks which seems to hint at the undefeated knockout (KO) artist Gennady Golovkin. Mayweather explains that such is not the case.

While he did not name anyone in particular, he implied that Triple G is not the guy to succeed him as the best at middleweight. He believes that until Triple G takes risks, he will remain unconvinced that Golovkin is the man who will succeed him.

Speaking of risks, it does come a bit weird if one thinks about his last fight which was against Andre Berto. Mayweather has been hit for not taking risks himself, so how can he come out and pin that on someone like Golovkin?

Recall that Golovkin also wanted a piece of Mayweather but the latter declined. Ward? It is hard to think that Golovkin would shy away from a potential slugfest especially if his credibility as a fighter is being questioned.

If not Golovkin, maybe Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez could be the guy? Right now, Mayweather has opened a whole can of worms by saying that it is all about race and it makes you wonder why he doesn't come out and prove his point and face Golovkin whom he doesn't think highly of.
