George Zimmerman's trial for the murder of Trayvon Martin continued today with the victim's mother and brother taking the witness stand.
Martin's family members testified that they heard him screaming for help in a recorded 911 call during his altercation with Zimmerman - moments before he was shot to death.
A recording of the 911 call recorded on Feb. 26, 2012 was played for the jury. When prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda asked Martin's mother Sybrina Fulton who she recognizes that voice to be, she replied, "Trayvon Benjamin Martin."
Fulton testified: "I heard my son screaming. I would hope for this to never have happened and he would still be here."
The victim's brother, Jahvaris Fulton, also testified that he heard Martin's voice on the 911 calls. "I didn't want to believe it was him," he said.
Zimmerman's father also took the witness stand, where he testified that the screams heard in the phone calls were from his son George.
Associate medical examiner Shiping Bao was also called to the witness tand. Bao performed Martin's autopsy a day after his death and testified that the cause of death was from a gunshot wound to the chest. He testified that the manner of death was a homicide and that Martin had lived for up to 10 minutes and was in pain after he was shot.
The gunshot wound went through to Martin's heart, with Bao testifying: "There was no chance he could survive."
Martin's fingernails showed no signs of Zimmerman's DNA, despite the defense team's attempts to portray Zimmerman as shooting him in self-defense.
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder of Trayvon Martin, who was shot to death when a fight broke out between himself and Zimmerman on his way back from a local convenience store last year. If he is found guilty, he will face up to life in prison.
The prosecutors claim that Zimmerman, who was an over zealous neighborhood watch volunteer, followed and shot Trayvon, while the defense claim that Trayvon aggravated Zimmerman who then shot him in self-defense.
