Fans of the "God of War" game franchise know Kratos all too well — a demigod built to kill even the mightiest of foes, with a wrath more turbulent than that of searing volcanoes and blowing winds combined. Some might expect that the latest installment of the series would depict him in another skull-breaking saga, but clues point otherwise.

Game director Cory Barlog previously explained in a PlayStation blog post that he wants things to be different. He wrote: "I knew I didn't want to simply reboot the franchise, starting over with a retelling of the origin story. I wanted to reimagine the gameplay, give players a fresh perspective and a new tactile experience while delving deeper into the emotional journey of Kratos to explore the compelling drama that unfolds when an immortal demigod makes a decision to change."

This being said, the "God of War" E3 2016 gameplay trailer showed exactly that. Instead of a lot of blood and gore, the clip shows an endearing little boy learning how to hunt with Kratos. It may be the first time fans see a glimpse of Kratos being calm and collected. As the game would put it, it looks like Kratos is teaching his son to be a god, while his son is teaching him how to be human.

The said trailer almost has 14 million views on YouTube as of writing, showing how much popularity the game has, and despite the sudden change in plot, avid fans are still waiting in anticipation. Some are expecting to see more during the upcoming PlayStation Experience 2016 that is set to happen next month, but WCCFTech has discovered "God of War" won't be showing up.

Barlog mentioned in his tweet that he will be there to join PlayStation fans, but not for "God of War." He did promise, however, that something awesome will come when it is ready.

Game N' Guide reports that the story will be taking place in a different land, somewhere far from Greece. Set in an area depicted in Norse mythology, Kratos and his son may be encountering unfamiliar situations which can either strengthen their bond or awaken the god of war inside him.

No official announcement has been made regarding the game's release.
