After two early season defeats at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs and the Luke Walton-coached Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors are starting to showcase what every other team feared in the offseason. They're officially the villains of the league and everyone would want to see this super team fail. While they look more like the squad that will emulate, if not surpass, the success of the past two seasons, there's one guy who seemingly is affected by the huge changes — Klay Thompson.
The one-half of the Splash Brothers did not have the ideal start to the season, firing blanks beyond the arc, although he still managed to average in double figures in scoring. However, one thing is for certain: The arrival of former scoring champion Kevin Durant to Dub Nation has made life pretty uncertain for Thompson. He now has to share and compete for minutes and ball possession with Durant, who everyone knows needs the ball most of the time.
Now, the brewing competition between Thompson and Durant could lead to the former realizing that he deserves more. Will this mean Thompson eventually deciding to ask for a trade after the season?
One rumor has it that Thompson might find his own way out of Golden State if issues of chemistry and playing time become more serious as the season progresses. There are reports that the Milwaukee Bucks might be interested in trading for him in exchange for big man John Henson, among other players. Well, this trade scenario, provided that the Bucks are willing to let go of a couple of more contributors, actually makes sense because the way everyone sees it, the one thing that the Warriors lack is a shot-blocking and defensive presence inside the paint.
But with the Warriors already starting to show their true potential 10 games into the season and with only two defeats, it's highly unlikely that the team will motivate Thompson to bail out. Any trade rumor involving the hotshot guard is also likely to disappear if the team wins the title this season. So is he sticking it out with the Dubs? If Golden State dethrones Cleveland, that's a definite yes.
