Google Nexus 10 2 release date: Device dropped? Nexus 10 back on the Google Play store; new Samsung tablet spotted

The Google Nexus 10

Rumors have been doing the rounds for some time now about a Google Nexus 10 2 to replace the Nexus 10 released in 2012.

That rumor was sparked when the original Nexus 10 disappeared from the Google Play Store, with a little note reading "Coming Soon".

No sooner had it disappeared from Google Play Store and there was speculation that a successor was in the works.

But the return of the Nexus 10 in the Google Play Store has put paid to that rumor.

The tablet has reappeared with an update in the form of the 4.4.2 Kitkat OS instead.

The question now is whether the tablet has been shelved altogether or whether the release date has simply been delayed while manufacturers reportedly work out who should make it.  If it does go ahead, it could be made by Samsung, LG, ASUS and HTC.

The hawk eyes over at SamMobile spotted a new tablet in the works at Samsung under the model number SM-T800 and International Business Times speculates this could in fact be the new Google Nexus.

Whatever it turns out to be, SamMobile reports that the Samsung device will have a 10.5-inch AMOLED tablet with a display of 2560x1600 resolution, powered by a quad-core Snapdragon processor and 2GB RAM.

Other reported specs include an 8MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing sensor, a 7,900 mAh battery, and Android KitKat 4.4.2 OS.

If it is the next Google Nexus, International Business Times predicts it could be out in August at the company's annual I/O Conference.
