It's just the beginning of the New Year and there's some bittersweet news for fans of "Gravity Falls." The Disney animated series' season 2 finale episode now has a release date.

Alex Hirsch took to Twitter to confirm that the final episode, "Weirdmageddon Part 3: Take Back the Falls" is slated to air on Feb. 15.

It will follow the last adventures of the twins, Mabel and Dipper Pines, back in "Weirdmageddon Part 2: Escape From Reality," which aired on Nov. 23, 2015.

A teaser for the last episode was uploaded on Facebook and YouTube on Wednesday but has since been marked private, Variety reported.

Fans are also in for a treat before the finale episode as it was also confirmed by Disney XD last Thursday that on Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. EST, there will be a 30-minute special dedicated to the show, which will feature facts about the well-loved series.

A 68-hour marathon will also kick off on Feb. 12 at 11 p.m. EST, TV Line reported.

Series creator Alex Hirsch surprised fans with the sad news in November that the mystery series is coming to an end. He posted on his Tumblr account, explaining that "Gravity Falls" is meant to be short-lived.

Hirsch also stated in the blog post that he was glad the show wasn't cancelled; it simply came to the point where there are no more stories to tell. "Gravity Falls was never meant to be a series that goes on and on forever," Hirsch wrote.

Fans were not the only ones saddened by the fate of the series. Even Kristen Schaal, who voices Mabel, shared her thoughts about recording the last Mabel line.

"Just recorded my last session for #GravityFalls. Hasn't sunk in yet. Hey @_AlexHirsch, can I at least get a DVD of the show?" Schaal wrote on Twitter on Dec. 21, 2015.

Meanwhile, it's not all that bad for "Gravity Falls" fans because the spirit of the series will live on long after the finale episode airs.

According to TV Line the interactive game "Gravity Falls: Take Back the Falls" will launch in mid-February on WATCH Disney XD, and the book "Gravity Falls: Journal 3" will be released by Disney Publishing this July.

Catch "Gravity Falls'" final episode on Monday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. EST.
