Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City will meet for the third time this season this Wednesday as one club tries to make it to the top six and the other hoping to improve their standings.

Houston is the club looking to make it to the playoffs but its recent outings in Major League Soccer (MLS) have not really helped so far.

After ending a three-match winless streak, Dynamo have lost back-to-back in their last league matches.

The Orange men were unable to capture victories over Real Salt Lake (RSL) (3–1) and Philadelphia Union (2–0).

According to MLS.com, the loss to Philadelphia extended Dynamo's road winless streak to five matches.

Dynamo's (35 points) position in the standings is tough since they need two victories to at least have a chance of reaching the sixth spot in the Western Conference. The spot is currently held by the Portland Timbers who have 41 points.

That does not even assure them a playoff spot since the clubs above them in the standings, San Jose Earthquakes (40 points) and RSL (38 points), will play against each other during the weekend and can both increase their point tally.

But a victory this Wednesday would give Houston 38 points, enough to tie the club with RSL for the meantime.

Meanwhile, Sporting KC ended a five-match winless streak with a 3–1 victory over FC Dallas in their last league match.

The win gave the Wizards 44 points, three points ahead of the final playoff spot where the Timbers are sitting and just a point behind fourth placer Seattle Sounders FC (45 points).

If Kansas City defeats Dynamo in their matchup, they would tie Dallas and defending MLS champions LA Galaxy with 47 points.

Dynamo and Sporting KC's first two MLS matches this season ended in draws with the first one a 4–4 draw last April and the second match in August ending at 1–1.

The match between Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City commence on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 8:30 p.m. EST. To watch via live stream, click here.
