
In a bid to gain as many customers as possible along with retaining its current ones, Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has introduced its "Uh-oh" service, a service that will allow consumers to replace their HTC handset, without paying a single penny in the process. According to Engadget, the replacement service will only be available to HTC's One M9 handset, which is the company's current flagship smartphone.
While the following has not been confirmed by HTC, it is possible that the replacement service will also be covering the One M8 smartphone, since the company's previous popular flagship handset was responsible for accumulating a significant amount of revenue for a firm that was being overwhelmed by the remainder of the competition.
With HTC's "Uh-oh" service, smartphone users will be able to replace their handsets under the following conditions:
- If they shatter the smartphone screen
- If the device suffers from water damage
Unlike HTC's previous replacement service that was titled 'HTC Advantage,' and only covered warranty service for those devices that had their screens cracked, users will be able to receive a replacement if the device erroneously gets submerged and damaged in water. Consumers should keep in mind that the warranty period will last for 12 months and will commence after individuals have purchased their One M9 handsets.
In addition, the company is also allowing greater flexibility by choosing to pay the user $100 if the handset does not get damaged under the aforementioned circumstances. With the $100, consumers can choose to purchase a brand new smartphone down the road. Furthermore, users can also switch their wireless carrier during the first 12 months of purchasing their devices.
Surprisingly, HTC's "Uh-oh" service does not cater to those who have purchased the Nexus 9. Seeing as how the Nexus 9 was the result of HTC and Google's efforts to produce a powerful slate, it would have been beneficial to tablet owners in the longer run.
