Idyllwild fire MAP: Riverside County fire burns 14,000 acres, spreading rapidly [VIDEO]

The Idyllwild fire continues to burn out of control in Riverside County, with a recent update by officials confirming that the wildfire had now burnt up more than 14,000 acres of land, and destroyed six more homes by Wednesday lunchtime.

The U.S. Forest Service gave the update on Wednesday morning and has confirmed that the Idyllwild fire is spreading at an alarming rate. Firefighters and officials have struggled to stem the spread of the blaze, with the wildfire nearly doubling in size since Tuesday.

According to official reports, the fire had consumed about 8,000 acres by Tuesday, but by Wednesday morning that figure had rocketed to more than 14,200 acres.

The U.S. Forest Service also confirmed that so far the wildfire has only been about 10 percent contained, but they are looking to increase that figure quickly.

The latest update has sparked even more concern among local residents as the fire continues to spread dramatically.

Officials have said that three mobile homes and three residences in Bonita Vista had recently been destroyed by the fire.

Previously a commercial building, a workshop, a garage and a cabin in Pine Springs were also burned down by the spreading blaze. Eleven other buildings and six vehicles have also been destroyed, as the devastation expands.

The Idyllwild fire started on Monday near the junction of highways 243 and 74.
