The Parr family might return to the big screen sooner than some expected. This was revealed when writer and filmmaker Brad Bird opened up to Collider about the development of the Disney-Pixar film "The Incredibles 2."

In the interview, Bird revealed where he is in the scriptwriting process.

"I have the story arc. I'm probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we're already boarding parts of it," the director said. He also shared that the production for the animation's sequel is being developed with the help of a talented pool of writers, saying, "I've got a lot of people that worked on the first one working on it, so we're all having a good time with it."

Although initially, there was of confusion regarding Bird's statement in the interview that the new "Incredibles" film will be released earlier than the "Cars" movie, a representative for the filmmaker clarified that Bird was referring to the release of the original film, which came before the first "Cars" flick and not about the release of "The Incredibles 2" and the upcoming "Cars 3."

"The Incredibles" enjoyed high success in the box office when it was first released in 2004, generating approximately $631 million worldwide. It was also well received by the film critics. It received several prestigious awards, including the Best Animated Feature Film in the 2004 Annie Awards, as well as two Academy Awards. It was also the very first full-length animated film that earned the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.

This means "The Incredibles 2" might be expected to match or surpass the success of the original film. But the film director acknowledged some factors that could affect the commercial success of the upcoming movie.

According to Bird, "The Incredibles" came out when there were just a couple of other superhero series on the big screen. Now, there are more superhero flicks coming out.
