'Injustice 2' release date, news: Ed Boon teases 'Watchmen' characters for sequel?

NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon is known to hold polls asking fans what they think about the series of projects he's working on. It's actually a good way to gauge the interest of the people who are going to buy the games. While a good number of his little teases never make it to the games, his most recent one may be plausible.

Earlier this week, Boon held another poll on Twitter and this time he asked fans if they want to see "Watchmen" characters in "Injustice 2."

Before fans dismiss this as another one of Boon's wild teases, it is worth nothing that DC owns the rights to "Watchmen," and the company has even begun integrating some of the characters into the main DC universe when they relaunched the comic line with "DC Rebirth" earlier this year. Well, it's quite obvious that Doctor Manhattan has been pulling the strings. And Mr. Oz? Come on. That's none other than Ozymandias and fans know it.

Now, who wouldn't want to see Rorschach battle someone like Batman? Or maybe Doctor Manhattan versus Superman? Okay, "Watchmen" creator Alan Moore is probably going to be livid if NetherRealm decides to do that.

Moore's never been happy with the way DC is handling his creation, and who could forget how angry he was in the interview with The Comics Journal a few years ago. NetherRealm and DC will probably get an earful from him if they decide to put "Watchmen" characters in the game. But what can Moore do? DC owns the rights, and that's why there's a chance that they may appear in "Injustice 2."

If they decide to include "Watchmen" characters, who should be in the game? Game Rant has pointed out that The Comedian is a natural fit, and of course, there's also Rorschach.

"Injustice 2" is scheduled to come out sometime in 2017, and the game will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
