iPhone 6 vs Xiaomi Redmi 2 specs: Cheap Chinese smartphone stand a chance against Apple's?

iPhone 6 has a new competitor as Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi announced the Redmi 2. The handset features 4G LTE connectivity and better processor. It will reportedly go on sale on Jan. 9.

One of the selling points of the Xiaomi Redmi 2 is its incredibly affordable price. The handset is reported to be sold for 699 yuan or $112. A lot of people commented that the Xiaomi Redmi 2 is a perfect secondary phone compared to other iPhone 6 alternatives.

Design

Xiaomi Redmi 2 is a follow up to last year's Redmi 1S. The new smartphone looks a lot like its predecessor. Same goes for the iPhone 6 that has the recognizable aluminum casing, but the handset is larger because of its bigger screen display. The new iPhone is also thinner.

Screen Display

Both devices have a 4.7-inch screen display. However, the new iPhone has a Full HD screen resolution, while the Redmi 2 has 720p pixel resolution. 

Processor 

While the iPhone 6 is powered by a 64-bit A8 processor with M8 graphics co-processor and 1 GB of RAM, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 comes with a quad-core Snapdragon 410 with 64-bit architecture and clocked at 1.2 GHz paired with Adreno 306 GPU and 1 GB of RAM. 

Operating System 

The flagship smartphone of Apple runs with the latest iOS 8 that equips the smartphone with new features such as iHealth and Apple Pay. Meanwhile, Xiaomi Redmi 2 runs with Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS topped with MIUI 6. 

Internal Storage 

The iPhone 6 comes with new storage options of 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. Xiaomi Redmi 2 has an 8 GB onboard storage with microSD slot that can be expanded up to 32 GB.

Camera

Both handsets come with an 8-megapixel shooter with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

Battery 

According to Apple, the iPhone 6 boasts a battery capacity that lasts up to 14 hours. Xiaomi Redmi 2, on the other hand, is supported by a 2200 mAh battery.
