iPhone 9 release date, specs rumors: New design speculations for Apple's next flagship phone surface

With all the upcoming flagship phone rumors from Samsung, LG, and Sony, it is high time that Apple gets their own buzz as well. Apple takes the spotlight right now with reports saying that its upcoming iPhone 9 will have fresh new design ideas.

Website Nikkei has revealed that Apple may be considering a metal black design for the iPhone 9. This will expand the color options of the 6.1-inch smartphone contender. The metal case will be manufactured by Casetek, which is a subsidiary of Pegatron. This is keeping in line with the history of aluminum case manufacturers for smartphones. That said, this is not the first time that an iPhone has brandished the metal black color, since the iPhones 7 and 7 Plus also had the design.

This could also mean that Apple may be planning to use a metal case as the standard for its next generation of iPhones. Rumors are, there will also be two screen versions to choose from for those who wish to cut spending costs for the iPhone. These will be a 6.1-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) screen and two variations of the phone using an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen, which is expected to be 5.8 inches and either 6.2 or 6.3 inches.

The next iPhones having three model variations have also been confirmed by KGI Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, and bigger sizes supposedly equate to better specs and more expensive pricing. KGI has also claimed that, in addition to varying sizes, the iPhone 9 will also have varying batteries depending on the screen of the phone. The digital security company has stated that two of the three iPhone 9 version will utilize a large L-shape battery design similar to that of the iPhone X. The third one, however, will be using the same traditional battery but with increased capacity compared to the previous generations.

It is not clear yet though what battery will be used by which variant, but it can be expected that the lower-end model will still be using the traditional battery design. The iPhone 9 has no release date yet, so a lot of things might still change along the way.
