Apple's latest flagship phone iPhone X can now be bought SIM-free via the company's website. This allows buyers to get the phone unlocked and without an associated carrier upon shipping. Buyers can always choose a carrier any time after purchase.

The carrier-free iPhone X can be purchased by visiting Apple's official website. Buyers can see a new option on the list of carriers called "Buy without a carrier (SIM-free. Activate with any carrier later)." This option is placed below the list of major United States carriers AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon.

There are several payment options, either in monthly installments or one-time payments. The 64 GB edition costs $999, and the 256 GB model costs $1,149.

Besides the actual phone, the package also includes earpods with the lightning connector, lightning to universal serial bus (USB) connector, a 5W USB power adapter, and lightning to 3.5-millimeter headphone jack adapter.

As indicated, the carrier-free version of the iPhone can work with any major carrier and can be used with a prepaid SIM card. The phone is compatible with both GSM and CDMA networks, so switching between these two network types will not be a problem.

Previously, the carrier-free version of the iPhone X was only available via Verizon. However, purchasing from them require Verizon credentials, even for the carrier-free models.

Best Buy once offered a carrier-free version of the phone, but for an additional $100 cost on top of the $999 price tag. They never really went into detail with the reasoning regarding the additional $100 cost, and the retailer was forced to take the offer down because of consumer backlash.

In any case, Best Buy now only offers iPhone X via monthly installment plans. The retailer does not currently sell the phone for a one-time, lump-sum payment.
